Competa
Holidays - Restaurant Guide
Competa, Canillas de Albaida & Archez
El
Pilon
Owned by
English chef Christian and his Spanish wife Mari Lou, one of
the best restaurants in the village. Excellent meat, fresh
fish and vegetables. Many dishes cooked on his outside
chargrille. Advisable to book particularly in summer if you
want to sit on the upstairs balcony.
Closed Tuesdays.

El
Cortijo del Paco
Another
excellent restaurant owned by Spanish chef Paco, on a par
with el Pilon with excellent steaks, fish and rabo de torro
( oxtail), and if you like fillet steak, try the Tornedo
Rossini.
If you like carpaccio of beef, try it here, delicious.
Always nice and warm in winter. Probably the best in the
village.
Closed Monday.

Pericos
This is the bar/ restaurant in the Plaza Almijara with the
seats outside. Very good tapas and basic but very good menu.
The chicken in Competa wine here is excellent.
Closed Wednesday.

La
Plaza
In the main
square by the church in Canillas de Albaida, owned by
Gustavo who does all the waitering and the bar, with a very
good English chef. Food is always first class, and for those
who like black pudding, try his morcilla con miel,
wonderful.

Bar
El Cerrazo
Just a tiny
Spanish bar, again in Canillas de Albaida, with a lovely
clean restaurant to the rear with a nice outside patio. Very
simple food, what you see on the menu is what you get, no
frills.
Dishes are individually cooked and are served when ready, so
don't all expect to eat at the same time !
The chips here ( order as a side dish ) are the best in
Spain !! Excellent value.
Closed Mondays.
Museo
del Vino
Eat in the
bar part, always a good atmosphere, same menu as in the
restaurant, and always very good. You can't leave here
without trying the Vino de Competa.
El
Rustico
Nice restaurant, good food, especially the steaks, service
more erratic than usual, go early or you will be there all
night!!
Telephone: 952 553 536
Meson
el Mudjecar
Situated in the nearby village of Archez, well worth the
trip just for the decor. The food however is also excellent
and the owner is charming. You may need to get directions or
alternatively drive out in daylight. Can be cold in
winter.
Closed Wednesday

Pavo
Real
The restaurant/bar at the top of our track. Owned by an
English family, food is simple, but handy for a pint and a
game of pool.
El
Bodegon
On the right
as you go up from the Car Park, a nice little bar, good
tapas and friendly atmosphere. Nice and warm in
winter.
There are a number of excellent bars and restaurants along
the coast road to Nerja, mostly specializing in fresh fish.
There is a super one on Calahonda beach next to the Balcon
de Europa in Nerja. Walk down the steps next to the arches
opposite the hotel. Another good one, one the beach , approx
2km from Torrox Costa, Bar Almanzor. Very simple, but always
has fresh fish and lovely salads.
